Poems from The Awakened Soul

The Awakened Soul's picture
Robert Frost. Maya Angelou. Langston Hughes. Famous poets all. I do not dare dream of raking among them. I am a budding poet, rising up in the world. While poetry has nothing to do with my life goals, it is a great passion of mine. I often find myself writing poetry in my head during what little free time I have. My poems are usually in unique or original forms, such as the Haiku Story (17 haikus that all tell a story together), which I am confident I was the first to do. My poems are very symbolic, or deeply personal. I like to fantasize reality, and/or reference to my life. For example, the line "When they used the orange jump ropes, so whorled/As ropes to fell her, and he said that slur" in my poem, Vigil, is a reference to a real bullying incident I experienced, in which a group of boys tied me up with jump ropes (very unpleasant). I also find that it helps the mysticism of a poem if the title is short, and the word(s) of the title are not in the poem. I would greatly appreciate it if you would critique my work, but not flat-out insult it. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and please, enjoy the works of the many great poets on this site.
